PHLEBOLOGY – THE STUDY OF VEINS

Phlebology has been a discipline in its own right in Australia for over 50 years and the body of information the profession has amassed over the 21 years of my involvement has taken the science forward by leaps and bounds.

There are two professional bodies for doctors specialising in venous disease;  The Australasian College of Phlebology, and The Australian and New Zealand Society of Phlebology.

Both of these colleges have regular conferences and belong to the international society that represents vascular physicians and surgeons, and there is now a proper accredited training course for Phlebologists.  Those successfully completing this course gain a fellowship of the Australasian College of Phlebology (FACP) and are deemed part of the selective group fully trained to care for all things veins.

An FACP combined with a fascination with the vascular system and a sense of fulfilment from helping people is the perfect combination to make an excellent phlebologist.
